Norman Cowan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1967. Having merged his practice in December 2000 with Wilder Coe, a firm of Chartered Accountants, he now heads up its Business Recovery Department. This expertise covers a wide range of industries and professions of differing sizes and characteristics.

Norman has accepted Insolvency appointments for the last 28 years, having obtained extensive expertise in this discipline and built a reputation for giving clear and constructive advice. He has written numerous articles and lectured to professionals on this subject.

Norman accepted appointments from the Nationwide Building Society, as a Law of Property Act Receiver, in respect of onerous properties which were in mortgage default

- Authorised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to practice as an Insolvency Practitioner since 1986;

- A Fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals, admitted 1990;

- A Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, admitted 1997;

- Registered with the Insolvency Practitioners Association as a Fixed Charge Receiver, admitted 1999;

- A Member of the Expert Witness Institute, admitted July 2000.

Professional Experience

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Norman Cowan joined Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouse Coopers) and then Clark Whitehill. After two years in commerce took a placement in the USA with Blue Cross Medical Insurance as an auditor.

Upon returning to the UK in 1973, joined Spicer and Pegler (now Deloitte Touche), initially in the audit department, later transferring to their Insolvency Department, remaining there for three years. In 1977 joined a small practice as an audit manager leaving in 1979 to form his own practice, Norman Cowan & Associates.

In December 2000, he merged his own practice with that of Wilder Coe, where he became the 13th partner.

This expertise covers a wide range of industries and professions of differing sizes and characteristics.

Norman has on a number of occasions been appointed by the Court to act as a Receiver to determine internal disputes in respect of Companies and Partnerships.

Norman accepted appointments from the Nationwide Building Society, as a Law of Property Act Receiver, in respect of onerous properties which were in mortgage default. Being a member of the Expert Witness Institute he has received a number of instructions to act as a Single and Joint Expert Witness, for which purpose he has given oral evidence.

As a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Entertainment and Media Industry Group, Bee has vast experience in the film production industry as well as property and currency exchange.
